About This Repository
If you have arrived here through a link, favourite, websearch or by clicking the "About this Repository" link then here is a brief explanation of where you are! You are currently in what was known as the "Good Practice Database*". In order to rationalise the number of ways of searching for learning and teaching resources for Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences we now use this area for "storage" of a number of textual resorces such as case studies of learning and teaching practice and reviews of resources. Search facilities have been removed from this area and you can now search all GEES Subject Centre resources through the GEES Subject Centre Resource Database. The GEES Subject Centre Resource Database is a new database that for the first time brings together resources for higher education learning and teaching in the Geography, Earth and Environmental Science (GEES) disciplines. It's a handy one-stop-shop for GEES academics. The database holds information on resources such as case studies of good practice, tutorials, journal articles, course text books and CDs.
*A brief history of the Good Practice Database - The Good Practice Database was originally set up by the Geography Discipline Network (GDN) in 1997 to host case studies of interesting and effective practices in the teaching, learning and assessment of geography from international higher education departments. Since January 2000 the development and expansion of the resource has been funded by the Subject Centre for Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences, based at the University of Plymouth. Part of the expansion of the resource has been the inclusion of case studies from Earth and Environmental Sciences, as well as case studies from GDN publications (for example, 'Key Skills in Geography in Higher Education', 'Learning Support for Disabled Students Undertaking Fieldwork and Related Activities').
The GDN was initially funded by the Employment Department/Department for Education & Employment under its Discipline Networks programme. The GDN was established at University College Northampton and ran for two year from 1994/5.
